Today is the parade at 10 a.m., with the route starting at the old bus barn, running along Hager Street to 9th Street and ending at the municipal swimming pool. A petting zoo is near the library, also from 10am. Then, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Lions Club Car Show and food vendors at City Park, with car show rewards at 2:30 p.m. The carnival takes place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the former school property.
Then, at 3 p.m., the two-man cornhole tournament and a dunk tank also take place on the school grounds. Check-in for the cornhole tournament is at 2:30 p.m. and it is a double-elimination contest with the top four teams receiving cash prizes. The day ends with the beer tent from 3 p.m. to midnight with musical entertainment from Standing Hampton from 8 p.m. to midnight.
With temperatures forecast to be in the mid to high 90s with the possibility of the heat index reaching the triple digits, Grand Junction Fun Days co-organizer Linda Hoffman said there will be help in case of overheating.
“Well, of course we will have people from our local fire and rescue department, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue. They actually help us with the dunk tank, they help us with the beer tent. We will have many people around.
Sunday will be a pool party from 1 to 3 p.m. with free hot dogs, fries, and drinks available.
